7 Ideas for Team Building Activities to Enhance Bonding, Collaboration & Cooperation

Team Building Activities, Team Bonding

Here is a list of  Team building activities for improving communication skills, bonding, collaboration and cooperation.

1)  Human Chain
For: Team Bonding, Problem solving
Communication, Cooperation
What You’ll Need:Paper, pens, cones and clipboards
Instructions: Team members are spread out in a line, consisting of several sections. The first person is
shown a picture by the facilitator and must then tell the next person what it is. This continues
until the last person receives the description. They must then attempt to recreate the picture.
The aim is to try and match the original picture shown by the facilitator. This is a much bigger
version of Chinese whispers, similar to Memory Lane.
2) Scavenger Hunt
For: Collaboration Skills & Team Bonding
What You’ll Need: Pen and paper
Instructions: Classic team bonding game that you can do yourself! Split everyone into groups and make a list of fun things to find or do outside your office. Make it each team’s mission to find and photograph everything on that list within a certain time limit. The first team to complete each item on the list, wins!
3) Trust Exercises
For: Team Bonding
What You’ll Need:
Instructions: The Trust Circle and Trust Ladder are two similar exercises that help participants build trust in their fellow teammates. Be sure to emphasize safety throughout either exercise. Line up the group into two parallel lines facing each other, standing close together. One person volunteers to go first and stands at one end of the parallel lines and falls forward (crowd surfing style). The group lifts them and passes them down their double line, gently depositing them at the end. They then take their place in the ladder and the next person has a turn.
4) Battle of the Airbands
For: Team Bonding
What You’ll Need: Speakers, smartphone or mp3 player
Instructions: Ever seen one of Jimmy Fallon’s famous lip sync battles? Expand the idea to a full battle of the airbands. Split your group up into teams of 3-4 people and let them decide who will be the singers, guitarists, drummers, etc. Give them some time to choose, rehearse, and perform a lip synced version of whatever work-friendly song they like. If they have a few days, teams can dress up or bring props. After the performances, teams can vote on the winner (with the caveat that no one can vote for their own band). Or, let a neighboring department in on the fun and have them choose the winner.
5)  Office Trivia
For: Team Bonding
What You’ll Need: 20-25 trivia questions about your workplace
InstructionsLooking for a quick and easy team building activity? Come up with a series of questions specific to your workplace and test your team’s knowledge.  This is a quick team building activity that tests how observant your team is.
 6) Community Service
For: Team Bonding & Icebreakers
What You’ll Need: A few hours out of the workday
Instructions: Participate in AdoptaFamily programs during the holidays, organize a beach clean up, take on a community beautification project — find an activity that appeals to your team or reflects your company values, get out of the office, and do some good for your community and your team.
7) Building a Bridge
For: Team Building & Communication
What You’ll Need: You can use anything for building the bridges. Here are a few suggestions:
newspapers, legos, toy bricks, straws, paper, cardboard etc.
Other essential resources: Tape, paper, pens, tape measure
Instructions: Using the materials provided, two teams must work together to build a bridge, with each subteam constructing half the bridge. During the challenge, teams cannot see each other and must rely on their communication skills to build an identical design. This is an excellent
activity for developing communication skills, problem solving and creative thinking.
