Encinitas is also known as the surf and flower capital of the world?
Swami’s Reef'” and “Swamis”, is an internationally known surfing spot, a point break located in Encinitas, San Diego County, California. Swami’s was named after Swami Paramahansa Yogananda, because the grounds and hermitage of the Self-Realization Fellowship ashram, built in 1937, overlook this reef point. The Beach Boys’ famous song, “Surfin’ USA,” was inspired by Encinitas, now grab your board and hit the waves.
Did you know that at one point in time 70% of the poinsettia flower market were grown in Encinitas, California, hence the designation “Flower Capital”. The poinsettia flower has become the living symbol of Christmas and it’s the No. 1 flowering potted plant in America, even though it’s only sold six weeks out of the year.
