The Shoppes at Carlsbad’s Renovation

In 2015 New York City-based developer had purchased the Westfield Carlsbad mall for $170 million and will rename it The Shoppes at Carlsbad.  Rouse Properties said it purchased the 1.1 million-square-foot mall to restore its standing in the community and complete a multimillion-dollar renovation started by Westfield.

Westfield Group had planned to remove the mall’s roof to turn it into an open-air shopping center. Rouse said it would complete the renovation and bring together “indoor and outdoor elements”.Rouse’s announcement touted the shopping center as “the only enclosed mall within a 15-mile radius.”The aging mall has stiff competition in the area with Carlsbad Company Stores and Carlsbad Forum specialty malls off Interstate 5. The mall renovations needed to be impressive.

Renovations are now nearly done at The Shoppes at Carlsbad just in time for the holiday season and they are impressive. The Shoppes at Carlsbad has added many great new tenants in 2017 including: The Cheesecake Factory, a Yard House restaurant and retailer Zara.

Last week The Cheesecake Factory opened its doors along with Francesca’s, next was Pandora’s opening. The Islands and Zara, another massive clothing retailer also opened recently, while Victoria’s Secret and American Eagle Outfitter renovated their shops and expanded their lines. Clothing giant H&M is also scheduled to open, although no date has been announced.

The Zara store will be housed in a 30,000-square-foot space on the lower level of The Shoppes. The Cheesecake Factory will also be located on the lower level, across from Zara. The Yard House will operate out of a 10,000-square-foot location on the second level, adjacent to Regal Cinemas, facing the street.

Graced by Grit is also scheduled to open this month, while Lucha Libre Gourmet Taco Shop comes on line Dec. 4 followed by the Yard House on Dec. 18. Three more restaurants open in the first quarter of 2018 — Breakfast Republic, Nekter and Poke Hut.
