Olde Carlsbad traces its roots to the late 1800s when settlers were drawn to the area by fertile farmland, abundant sunshine, and the discovery of Carlsbad’s famous mineral water.

The arrival of the Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe Railway in 1887 transformed what had been a quiet coastal settlement into a growing community.

Many of the town’s earliest residents chose to build their homes on the gentle hills just east of the railroad tracks, where ocean breezes, elevated views, and larger parcels of land made for an ideal place to live.

These homes became the foundation of what is now known as Olde Carlsbad.

Whenever I drive through Olde Carlsbad, I slow down. There’s something special about seeing homes that have witnessed more than a century of Carlsbad’s history. They remind me that every neighborhood has its own story, and Olde Carlsbad is where so much of our city’s story began.
