Gregorio’s Italian Restaurant
Where Family, Tradition, and Community Come Together
“The best Italian meals aren’t just served—they’re shared.”
Nestled in the heart of Carlsbad Village, Gregorio’s Italian Restaurant has become one of those places that locals return to time and time again.
Walk through the doors and you’ll be greeted by the comforting aromas of garlic, basil, simmering sauces, and homemade Italian cooking. The warm atmosphere, friendly service, and authentic flavors make every guest feel like they’ve been invited into an Italian family gathering.
For many, Gregorio’s is more than a restaurant.
It’s where birthdays are celebrated, anniversaries are remembered, friendships grow, and families gather around the table.
It’s also one of our favorite tasting locations on Carlsbad Food Tours.
Meet the Owner
The Story Behind the Dream
For Greg Nelson, Gregorio’s has always been about much more than serving exceptional Italian food.
It’s about creating a place where people feel welcome, where families gather, and where the community comes together.
Greg has spent much of his life serving Carlsbad—not only as a successful entrepreneur, but also as a passionate community leader and philanthropist.
His philosophy is simple:
Treat guests like family.
Serve quality food.
Give back to the community that has supported you.
That philosophy has helped make Gregorio’s one of Carlsbad Village’s most beloved restaurants.
Community Leadership
Giving Back to the Community
Long before becoming a restaurant owner, Greg Nelson understood the importance of community.
As a young boy, Greg and his brother spent much of their childhood at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Carlsbad, where they found encouragement, friendship, and opportunities that helped shape their future.
Those experiences stayed with him.
After achieving success in business, Greg looked for meaningful ways to give back.
In 2010, he made an extraordinary commitment by donating 100% of Gregorio’s annual profits to help build the Bressi Ranch Boys & Girls Club, encouraging the community to support local youth simply by dining at the restaurant.
Greg and his wife, Barbi, have continued supporting the Boys & Girls Clubs and numerous local organizations over the years. Greg later became a Boys & Girls Clubs of America Alumni Hall of Fame inductee and has been recognized throughout Carlsbad for his outstanding community service and generosity.
His story reminds us that a successful business can nourish more than its guests—it can strengthen an entire community.

Why We Love Them
Gregorio’s has been one of our favorite restaurant partners for years.
Our guests consistently rave about the welcoming atmosphere and incredible food.
But what makes Gregorio’s truly special is Greg Nelson’s commitment to giving back.
He believes restaurants should be part of the community—not just places to eat.
That generosity, combined with authentic Italian hospitality, perfectly reflects everything we love about Carlsbad Village.
It’s a story we’re proud to share with every guest.
Carlsbad’s Little Italy
Carlsbad Village has quietly become one of Southern California’s premier destinations for authentic Italian dining.
Restaurants like Gregorio’s, Cicciotti’s, Gelato Love, and Vigilucci’s have helped establish a vibrant Italian culinary culture that locals proudly celebrate.
Together, they have transformed Carlsbad Village into what many affectionately call “North County’s Little Italy.”
If These Walls Could Talk…
“I’ve celebrated birthdays, anniversaries, engagements, and reunions. I’ve watched families grow, friendships deepen, and neighbors become regulars. Every meal shared here reminds me that food has an incredible way of bringing people together.”
Cherimarie’s Reflection
One of the things I admire most about Greg Nelson is that he understands the true meaning of community.
He hasn’t simply built a successful restaurant.
He’s invested in Carlsbad’s future.
Knowing how much he has given back through the Boys & Girls Clubs makes every meal at Gregorio’s even more meaningful.
When our guests enjoy the Eggplant Parmigiana or Truffle Mushroom Risotto, they’re not only experiencing wonderful Italian cuisine—they’re supporting a business built by someone who genuinely cares about our community.
That’s exactly the kind of story I love sharing on our tours.
