Car Shows in Carlsbad: Classic Cars, Coastal Cruising & Community
Where Car Culture Meets the California Coast There is something about a classic car that makes people stop and look. Maybe it’s the chrome. The curves. The rumble of an old engine. Or maybe it’s the memories. A 1957 Chevy can take one person back to high school. A Volkswagen bus might remind someone else…
Surf Competitions in Carlsbad: Where Local Surf Culture Meets Competition
Surfing Is Part of Carlsbad’s Identity Spend enough mornings along the Carlsbad coast and you’ll quickly realize that surfing isn’t simply something people do here. It’s part of the rhythm of the community. Before many of us have finished our first cup of coffee, surfers are already paddling out at Tamarack, Terramar, Warm Water, Ponto,…
Carlsbad Restaurant Week: A Delicious Reason to Eat Local
When Carlsbad Becomes One Big Dining Room There are plenty of reasons to love Carlsbad. The beaches. The lagoons. The Village. The sunsets. The people. But if you’ve spent any time exploring Carlsbad with me, you already know there is another reason very close to my heart: The food. Carlsbad’s restaurant scene has…
Holiday Traditions in Carlsbad: Celebrating Christmas by the Coast
When the Holidays Come to Carlsbad Christmas in Carlsbad looks a little different. There may not be snow on the ground. Palm trees don’t lose their leaves. When Bavaria Comes to Carlsbad Fall in Carlsbad doesn’t usually mean sweaters, changing leaves, and chilly afternoons. It might still be 75 degrees. Someone is probably surfing. Public Art Walk in Carlsbad Village: Murals, Street Art & Hidden Creative Gems
Where Carlsbad Village Becomes an Outdoor Gallery One of my favorite ways to explore Carlsbad Village is to simply start walking—and keep your eyes open. You don’t need to visit a museum to discover art in Carlsbad. Colorful murals cover building walls, artwork appears in unexpected alleyways, and whimsical characters hide around corners. Add sculptures,…

Carlsbad Sign Lighting – The New Gateway to Carlsbad
The New Gateway to Carlsbad – Carlsbad Sign Lighting The Carlsbad sign lighting was a big hit. Carlsbad’s newly installed gateway sign didn’t literally stop traffic, but it did wow plenty of passers-by who stopped to admire the new landmark and snap photos with their cell phones. The sign, which spans Carlsbad Boulevard near Carlsbad Village Drive, was inspired by a similar archway that stood in the area in the 1930s. The sign is the brainchild of Carlton Lund, a real estate agent and former chairman of the Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce. He said he got the idea 14 years ago when he attended the dedication of Encinitas’ gateway sign. “The day after, I started the campaign,” Lund said. “It was part of my Midwest roots, where every town has a sign. I felt that Carlsbad had to have one,…
