Welcome to Carlsbad

One of the best-kept secrets about Carlsbad is that you don’t need a car to have an amazing vacation.

Carlsbad Village is one of Southern California’s most walkable coastal downtowns. With the COASTER train station, beautiful beaches, boutique shopping, restaurants, and attractions all within walking distance, it’s easy to relax and enjoy your stay without worrying about traffic or parking.

This itinerary is designed for visitors staying near Carlsbad Village, where you can explore the best of the city on foot while experiencing the local food, history, and coastal charm that make Carlsbad so special.

Day One – Discover Carlsbad Village

Morning

Arrive by train at the historic Carlsbad Village Station or check into your hotel.

Start your morning with coffee and breakfast at one of the Village’s local cafés before strolling through the charming downtown streets lined with boutiques, art galleries, and colorful murals. Carlsbad Village is known for its relaxed atmosphere, walkability, and mix of locally owned businesses.

Afternoon

Spend the afternoon exploring:

  • Carlsbad Village
  • Village Faire
  • Carlsbad State Beach
  • Tamarack Beach
  • Public art and murals
  • Historic Railroad Depot Visitor Center

Take your time—everything is just a short walk away.

Evening

Watch the sunset from Carlsbad Boulevard, one of California’s most scenic coastal roads.

Enjoy dinner at one of Carlsbad Village’s outstanding restaurants before ending the evening with dessert or gelato.

Day Two – Eat Like a Local

Today’s highlight is experiencing Carlsbad through its food and stories.

Carlsbad Food Tours

Spend the afternoon on the Taste of Carlsbad Food Tour, a three-hour guided walking tour through Carlsbad Village.

Along the way you’ll:

  • Visit locally owned restaurants
  • Enjoy multiple food and drink tastings
  • Learn the fascinating history of Carlsbad
  • Discover hidden gems you might otherwise miss
  • Meet local chefs and business owners
  • Feel like a local by the end of the tour

It’s one of the best ways to experience Carlsbad because it combines history, culture, and incredible food into one unforgettable afternoon.

Evening

After the tour, relax with a drink at a local brewery or wine bar, or take another stroll along the beach.

Because the Village is so walkable, there’s no need to worry about driving.

Day Three – Choose Your Adventure

Depending on your interests, you have several great options that don’t require a car.

Option 1 – The Beach Day

Spend your final day enjoying:

  • Tamarack Beach

Option 2 – Nature Lover

Take a short rideshare to:

Take a quick rideshare or local transit to:

  • Museum of Making Music

These attractions are located a few miles south of the Village and are easy to reach without renting a car.

Cherimarie’s Reflection

One of my favorite things about Carlsbad is how easy it is to slow down.

You don’t need to rush from one attraction to another or spend your vacation sitting in traffic. Instead, you can walk to breakfast, wander through Carlsbad Village, watch the waves roll in, and discover amazing local restaurants—all in the same day.

That’s exactly why I love sharing this community through Carlsbad Food Tours. When you experience Carlsbad on foot, you notice the little things: the historic buildings, the friendly shop owners, the ocean breeze, and the stories hidden around every corner.

By the end of your visit, my hope is that you won’t just feel like a tourist—you’ll feel like a local.
