Meet the Owners and Chefs

Little Victory brings together two husband-and-wife teams. Kirsten Potenza and Jeremy Simpson founded Little Victory Wine Market in Encinitas and shaped the wine program around small producers, organic and biodynamic farming, and curiosity without intimidation. In Carlsbad they partnered with chefs Kelly and Elliott Townsend, whose culinary direction emphasizes sustainability, seasonality, and the agricultural abundance of Southern California.

The Story Behind the Dream

The Carlsbad wine bar grew from the spirit of the original market: discover bottles with personality, talk openly about how they were made, and build community around them. The partnership added a serious food program and a permanent Village home at 505 Oak Avenue, where Little Victory opened in 2025 alongside Always Hungry Grocery & Goods.

The Restaurant Story

Little Victory feels European in rhythm but Southern Californian in ingredients and ease. Guests can stop for one glass, explore an unfamiliar producer, share a meal, or take a provision home. The room is intentionally layered and personal, reflecting Potenza’s design sensibility and the partners’ belief that wine culture should invite people in.

Signature Offerings

The wine list favors expressive, thoughtfully farmed bottles, while the food menu changes frequently. Rather than preserve a fixed list of dishes, the Storybook should emphasize the chefs’ seasonal small plates and the way the kitchen creates pairings for the current wines.

The experience depends on collaboration. Simpson’s wine knowledge, Potenza’s brand and community-building instincts, and Kelly and Elliott Townsend’s culinary perspective meet in the details: bottle selection, menu changes, sourcing, room design, and conversations at the table.
